Cheese Recall Due To Staphylococcus Aureus

January 31, 2008 | Leave a Comment

FYI -

“Routine surveillance by the Indiana State Board of Animal Health’s Dairy Division revealed high levels of staphylococcus aureus (or “staph”) in several raw milk cheeses manufactured by Grassy Meadows dairy of Howe, Ind. Because of the facility’s location, consumers in Ohio and Michigan, as well as Indiana, should also check their refrigerators for these items.”

Yet again I’m glad I’m vegan.

Animal Intelligence

January 31, 2008 | 2 Comments

This is worth passing along, given some recent discussions of animal intelligence, as well as, assumptions of human superiority and the conclusion drawn from that assumption, namely, that might makes right. Just because we can, doesn’t mean we should. Just because we want to, doesn’t mean we should. Either we treat animals ethically or we don’t.

“As of last week, according to The Daily Mail, Britain’s memory champion is no longer Ben Pridmore—who is capable of memorizing the order of a shuffled deck of cards in less than 30 seconds—but a 7-year-old chimpanzee named Ayumu, who soundly defeated Mr. Pridmore in a computer game which involved remembering the position of numbers on a screen.

“Now I’m sure there are a bunch of things that Ayumu would prefer to be doing than playing a computer game with an accountant from Derby (such as, like, being a normal chimpanzee), but the widely reported story does show, yet again, just how intelligent these animals are, and just how overwhelmingly hideous it is that it’s still legal to throw them in cages, pump them full of drugs, and dispose of them once we’ve gotten what we wanted out of them.”

Pretty cool, eh? From PETA Files.

The PETA Porn Debate Craps

January 31, 2008 | 3 Comments

naked craps

Here are some of the arguments I’ve been hearing lately in the PETA porn debate. This is sort of like a bingo card for anti-PETA trolls. Wanna play? Jump into the debate, roll the dice, and pick an argument to make.

  1. I’m not anti-porn, but porn is bad. And I have no suggestions on how to make it not bad.
  2. I hate PETA so I’ll jump on any bandwagon that’s bashing them. I’m not anti-porn; I’m anti-PETA.
  3. I’m not anti-porn, but PETA shouldn’t have nude ads. Porn isn’t necessarily bad for society, but when PETA does it, it is, because they’re, you know, PETA.
  4. I am anti-porn, but I’ll say I’m not because it’s not hip to be anti-porn.
  5. I’m not pro-porn or anti-porn or pro-PETA or anti-PETA; I just like calling people stupid, lazy, illogical, irrational, ridiculous, tacky, classless, slimy, bitchy, mean, rude, perverted…

I’ve taken a few liberties, as you may have guessed.

Pic is from a Google image search for “craps” and is from Shelley’s Snippets, cribbed from Suncoast Naturists. How could I resist?

Disgusting News

January 31, 2008 | Leave a Comment

  • Video of slaughterhouse workers abusing animals - this made news all over the web, so that’s a good thing. More and more people are becoming aware that the US method of raising and killing animals for food is not in any way, shape, or form humane. (This is not an isolated incident.)
  • Human zoo in Thailand - as usual, difference is used as a justification for oppression.
