Year in Review: 2007

Each year I write a little overview of what I did the previous year. Here is my 2006 Year in Review and here is the one for 2005. Now, it’s time to look back on 2007:

January - I decided to continue the 2000 Bloggers project. Here’s some background. During the same time, my nephew Joey came to visit for the first time. We had a great time touring the city from the eyes of a 7-year-old. Lastly, we kept our New Year’s resolution to go “vegan at home.” Outside of home we were lacto-ovo vegetarian.

February - We went to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. Pictures and comments:

March - I celebrated my 31st birthday and called it my twenty-eleventh. My birthday comes on International Women’s Day.

April - The pet food recall killed thousands of animals. I wrote about it here seriously and humorously. April also marked my missed chance to meet Matt Mullenweg.

May - Joey came for another visit. This time we took him to the Farm Sanctuary. Ed and I had success with the fist five months of being vegan at home, so we decided to try to make the entire trip vegan. After years and years of vegan-envy I was finally ready to do it again. On our way home, I decided to go vegan for good and Joey decided to go lacto-ovo vegetarian for good. It’s been six months and we’re still veggies! Here’s the Farm Sanctuary travelog:

June - I went to Utah and spent a week volunteering at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary with my mom. Here are my posts about that wonderful trip:

The trip was also a chance for me to test out my new camera, similar to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3K Here’s a picture I took with that camera. This picture represents so much to me: my love of nonhuman animals and this bird’s captivity, curiosity, intelligence, and beauty:

July - I don’t know, did anything happen in July? Hmmm…
August - We went to Toronto for a wedding. (I hate weddings.) We learned that Toronto is surprisingly vegan-friendly and we want to go back. On that trip, we also learned of undisclosed iPhone/AT&T international charges, the fun of riding a segway, and that the Canadian-American border is tightly secured against stoner Jamaicans.

During August, I also started a new blog, the Vegan Soapbox, which I plan to expand and develop more fully in 2008.

September - We traveled to Niagra Falls. I got into a major flamewar in the feminist blogosphere. And, probably unrelated, my blog was attacked and traffic slowed down. (Other blogs were attacked, too.)

October - We did a number of things in October worth mentioning here:

  • Floyd won various prizes at dog Halloween costume contests for his s’more costume. One prize was a little, red wagon, that when compared to our tiny 300 square foot New York apartment is a quite large, red wagon.
  • That month, we also did the Walk for Farm Animals and raised money for charity.
  • Ed’s blog celebrated a blogaversary.

November - Ed, Floyd, and I flew to Arizona. From Arizona, we drove to California and Nevada touring the west and visiting family. We also stopped by the Grand Canyon.

December - My sister, her son, her dog Lucy, and my mom came to visit us in New York for a white Christmas. The snow didn’t come, but we still had a great visit.

Happy New Year! Have a great 2008!
