Once a week I publish a weekly digest of my posts. This is the weekly digest for this week.
Need Dating or Sex Advice?
Pandagon is starting a dating advice column: “A lot of people have sent emails over the years asking if Pandagon could have some sort of sex/dating advice column from a feminist, pro-choice perspective. I’ve liked the idea but never have bothered to get it up and running. Now I think I might be…
Roasted Root Vegetables
Ed received a basket of fresh root vegetables for his birthday from his mom. I chopped some up and doused ‘em with oil, vinegar, and herbs and baked ‘em at 375 degrees for 45 minutes. The result was this colorful, festive roasted root vegetable medley: It looks like confetti! The specific…
Brooklyn Bridge
One of our adventures last week was a trek across Brooklyn Bridge. Floyd loved it, as did his parents. (Yes, Ed’s shirt says “The Dogfather”).
The World Wide Wild West
Anna Greer wrote a piece in the Sydney Morning Herald about the recent attacks from “anonymous” upon feminist blogs, forums, and other websites. She reflects some of the same thoughts I’ve had here. For example, I wrote, “[The American forefathers] were just like we are now looking at how…
Can Fast Food Be Zen?
Zen Burger, the first vegetarian fast food chain, is coming. “The plan for Zen Burger, the all-vegetarian quick-service line which is to open its first outlet in late October in midtown Manhattan and others elsewhere thereafter, is similar. “Tu [the owner] expects revenue of $7 to $8 dollars per…

Jessica Valenti is a Nice Guy (TM)
I got this comment last night on my blog: “i read your comments on feministing.com- re:jessica and her new puppy. i was disgusted by your far too overwhelming vigilance. take it easy on the poor girl. you can’t be a very pleasant person. i feel sorry for you for being so angry.” They’re…
This Morning’s Lunar Eclipse
Early this morning my wonderful husband woke me up and reminded me of the lunar eclipse. We threw on some flipflops and went onto our building’s roof to watch it. We saw the eclipse begin, but the taller Manhattan buildings and the clouds made the moon difficult to see. So we walked down to…
Half of City Center in Las Vegas Sold to Dubai World
A story in today’s USA Today looks familiar. “LAS VEGAS (AP) — In a move solidifying its preference for joint venture projects, casino operator MGM Mirage (MGM) said Wednesday it would sell off half of its newest megaproject on the Las Vegas Strip, CityCenter, to Dubai World in return for a…
Dear Cosmo, There’s No Such Thing As Gray Rape
Feel like writing? Angry about rapists who get away with their crime(s)? Angry at rapist enablers? Then check this out: “As an update to Cosmopolitan’s article on the crock-o-shit “gray rape” theory, The New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault has initiated a letter-writing campaign…
Lunar Eclipse Monday Night (PST) or Tuesday Morning (EST)
Monday night/ Tuesday morning there will be a lunar eclipse visible from the Western hemisphere. On the West coast it starts at 2:50am. On the East coast it starts around 5:50am and continues for an hour and a half. The best views are on the West coast, but good views from all over. According to the…
Bias, Babies, and Bullshit
Science can be biased. It can be biased in the methodology used in experiments. It can also be biased from the start: in the very questions for which a scientist seeks answers. This anonymous web survey about abortion is biased in both ways. Go take the survey if you’ve “experienced abortion.”…
The Year Of The Dog
It’s been just over a year since we adopted our dog, Floyd. That was one of the best decisions we’ve made. We’re so glad we decided to bring Floyd into the family. When we adopted Floyd we didn’t expect… …waking up each morning in a pile of dog toys that Floyd has brought into the bed…
Plan B Prevents Abortion
Plan B, also known as The Morning After Pill, celebrated it’s one year as an over-the-counter drug just recently. Needless to say, proponents of reproductive rights are celebrating. Pandagon has a post about it, too. I’ve only used Plan B once, many years ago, when it was prescription-only. You…
Is Beauty 2.0 Compatible With Feminism 3.0?
Can you wear make-up and shave your legs and still be a feminist? I think so. The beauty conversation is happening at Feminste and No Cookies For Me. When I was in college getting my Women’s Studies degree, I knew a woman who was LDS and she was getting the same degree. I couldn’t understand how…
Things Conservatives Hate: Liberal Bloggers, The French, Being Called Misogynists, Vulgarity, & Facts About Neurological Disorders
I was reading the Trailer Park Feminist: “Pro-lifer Jill Stanek is tired of being called a misogynist just because she advocates for government control of women’s reproductive organs. So she wrote a silly article about it, pointing the finger back at liberals who she sincerely believes must…
Did I Mention I’m Afraid Of Texas?
The image here really says it all. It’s an exceptionally persuasive lens. It’s absolutely ridiculous that vibrator sales are still banned in a few states, such as Alabama and Texas, yet gun sales are not. “Alabama journalist Gita Smith imagines the Supreme Court oral argument that will take…

Pandagon is starting a dating advice column:
“A lot of people have sent emails over the years asking if Pandagon could have some sort of sex/dating advice column from a feminist, pro-choice perspective. I’ve liked the idea but never have bothered to get it up and running. Now I think I might be able to do something like that in a modified form.
“So, dear readers, I ask of you this: Please send me your questions on sex and dating. I can’t promise I’ll get to all of them, but hopefully I’ll be able to address some shortly. Please include a pseudonym that’s different than the one you comment with for real anonymity.”
So, if you’re in the mood to get some dating advice from them, send in your letters.
Roasted Root Vegetables
August 29, 2007 | 1 Comment
Ed received a basket of fresh root vegetables for his birthday from his mom. I chopped some up and doused ‘em with oil, vinegar, and herbs and baked ‘em at 375 degrees for 45 minutes. The result was this colorful, festive roasted root vegetable medley:
It looks like confetti!
The specific vegetables used here were: 1 yam, 1 onion, 1 shallot, 5 beets, 10 baby carrots, 1 potato, 3 red potatoes, 5 baby turnips, 5 baby radishes, and 3 cloves of garlic.
The specific marinade was: 1/4 cup olive oil, 1/8 cup white wine, 1/8 cup red vinegar, 3 tablespoons rosemary, 2 tablespoons chervil, a dash of lemon juice, and salt.
The result was tasty. We ate it with a boca burger and beer. Yum.
