Who knew this dog was under all that matted and stained fur?

He is so much happier. He is more energetic and he’s wagging his tail more often. He’s overall in better spirits. I’m so glad we got him groomed finally!

We’re going to keep it short, but not this short. We’ll let it grow out and see what he looks like. He’s just adorable.

Abandonment

July 30, 2006 | Leave a Comment

“New Orleans is experiencing what appears to be a near epidemic of depression and post-traumatic stress disorders…” from the NY Times.

The suicide rate in New Orleans has tripled what it was pre-Katrina.

People tend to forget things they’re not confronted with daily. We tend to ignore things that don’t interest us. We tend to abandon things that don’t effect us.

I had almost forgotten Ed lost his hometown nearly a year ago.

I cried for two weeks straight when Katrina hit. And I’m not even from New Orleans. I can’t imagine living in a city with remnants of death and destruction everywhere, a city abandoned by the rest of the world, a partially drowned city gasping for breath.

Series other than the World Series of Poker

I dug up two of my favorite series of entries:

New Orleans Travelog: In February I went to New Orleans for three weeks. I spent the first week alone working and sleeping at a temporary Hurricane Katrina animal rescue shelter. The next week I spent with my husband and mother-in-law visiting her destroyed house for the first time since the hurricane and dealing with some related issues. I spent the third week celebrating my first New Orleans Mardi Gras. The log starts here.

Wedding Diaries: From July 2005 to November 2005, I wrote about our wedding planning and the Big Day. They are here.

We dub thee, Floyd!

July 30, 2006 | Leave a Comment

The dog has been named. From this day forth he shall be called Floyd.

Floyd desperately needs to be shaved. His fur is matted everywhere. It’s itchy for him and smelly for us. We’ve bathed him and it helps, but it doesn’t help enough. He still stinks. The vet says he can be groomed but it should be a mobile groomer so Floyd won’t infect other dogs with his cold. But I’m having a hell of a time finding a groomer. They won’t do it. I think that’s so strange, given he’s got the vet’s permission. I am about to take matters into my own hands. I did go to beauty school, after all. I know how to cut hair.
