House hunting!
We’ve been looking at houses. We saw about 10 homes so far, maybe more. We haven’t found the one yet, though. But we’re getting very close…

We’ve met some nice people too. It’s sorta fun.
Wine Tasting

A few weeks ago Ed, Clark, Jo, and I went to UNLVino, a charity wine tasting event at the Paris. It is a huge event with about 150 booths of wine vendors each sampling 3-8 batches of wine. The money goes to scholarships for UNLV students.
We tasted a few wines and then the boys felt a little overwhelmed and wanted to make the most of their experience. So they went back to the directory and charted out their plan of action, hitting the best wines first and saving the crap for last. They even got Sucker Dave’s advice.
Meanwhile, Jo and I kept tasting. By the end of the evening I didn’t know my name. Read more

Received the check! The closing is final. No more worries about the condo.
We started looking at houses yesterday. Nothing spectacular. And neither of us gets very emotional about stuff like this anyway… I’m just excited to finally get a dog. That’s really all I care about. I just want a dog.
Obviously, I have preferences and I won’t rush or settle, but yeah, I want a dog. Read more
Closing

Signed the closing documents today. That was exciting. Money is coming soon! And the prospect of buying a house is closer. We’re going to walk with about $22,000. When we compare it to the cost of rent and the cost of owning, though, it’s not really a profit - it’s more like we just lived for free for the last year and a half.
Funny though, I never paid a water bill. I assumed it was part of the HOA. But it wasn’t and apparently I owed 100 bucks. But they still had it in the previous owner’s name, so we were all confused. The title company is straightening it out.
Joey read for 55 minutes today. I gave him a stack of books to choose from for his reading homework (15 minutes a day) but he wanted to read all the books. So he he did. Woo hoo!
Running on Empty

My glass is half empty. Or so says Ed of late. Last night we watched a Queer Eye episode on Tivo. The show was the circus and they pimped out the Straight Guy’s trailer. I kept saying how I felt worried for him since he was going to get burglarized now and I hoped they installed an alarm system along with the expensive TVs and such. I’m pretty sure they didn’t considering how they left our apartment unlocked, candles burning, and other hazards.
Then I did the math on the condo and even though it feels like a $30,000 profit (bought for 99,500, selling for 129,000) it really isn’t when we look at the big picture. It turns into about a $10,000 profit, which is nice, but is also almost exactly what we spent living in this apartment for the last 6 months instead of living there in the condo. Whoops. Which, of course, makes me even more nervous about buying a house. I just keep thinking that we could be traveling the world right now. Or that we could live more cheaply elsewhere. Or that if we’re going to act like adults and settle down, well let’s do it already. Let’s have a kid and change our lives forever and stop pretending we’re ever going to take a honeymoon or travel anywhere…
Yes, my glass is half empty right now.
