Have your cake and eat it, too

Last night we went to the Cake concert. The show was good, but a little shorter than I expected. I was disappointed. They tried to get the audience to sing along to too many songs. Once is fine, but two or three times is just wrong. Of course, though, the show WAS good. How can anyone not like Cake?

I’m leaving Wednesday morning. I’m a little nervous because I haven’t packed yet and I’m afraid I’ll forget something. I haven’t taken a month long trip in a couple years. And that packing job was a disaster.

Tonight we’re going out to play some poker. This is a first for me. I wanted to go with Ed when all his friends were in town for the wedding reception, but I had to go to the nekkid boys show instead. So this will be my first casino poker experience. wow.

condo

OH, another update: Lois sold her condo. She says she got $125,000 for it. We haven’t seen it posted on the Assessor’s website yet, though, so we can’t verify. But, if that’s true, that’s awesome! Because my unit would go for at least that! Which means we’d get more than we expected last we looked. It just keeps going up! When we were going to sell it before we needed it for Mimi, we expected making $10,000 from it. That was just 6 months ago, or less! Now, we could get $25,000! Which means not only can we pay off the credit card and fund my retirement account, but we can also put something in the emergency account! Which means Ed’s third book can go almost entirely towards a new house. The first two can pay our monthly expenses and the retirement accounts. This is exciting!

yet another update on my boring life

Today is Day 4 of THE COLD. I am so sick. Still. At least today it seems to have moved from the runny nose stage to the coughing stage. I hope to get this thing out of my system by Sunday. I hope I haven’t gotten anyone else sick. But I probably have. I even went out last night to CPR/First Aid training and probably infected the class.

I’m so glad we did that training. We signed up for it a little while ago and have been meaning to do it for quite some time. It’s so good to feel like I know what to do in an emergency. And even though I’ve done the training many many times, I forget things and need reminders.

Here’s the reminder I needed:
*Adults - 15 chest compressions / 2 breaths compressions done with both hands, on chest between nipples / plug their nose & breathe into mouth
*Children (age 1-8) - 5 chest compressions / 1 breath compressions done with one hand, on chest between nipples / plug their nose & breathe into mouth, smaller breath than adult
*Babies - 5 chest compressions / 1 breath compressions done with two fingers, on chest between nipples / breathe into mouth and nose at once, small puff
*Don’t worry, if someone isn’t breathing and doesn’t have a pulse, you can’t do more damage to them by trying CPR, they’re already dead.
*CPR will not usually resuscitate someone, it just keeps their brain from getting more brain damage if they can be resuscitated when the paramedics come

I’m finally making my back up to my CDs. I’m getting them ready to put on my iPod. It only took me a year :/ This is really good, though, because then I can get rid of the cases and the and the bookcase can use the space for something else. I hope to have it done in time for my trip so we can listen to it on the way. I still haven’t decided if I’m going to New Orleans. I’m not sure we can afford it or if I should just stay here. Ed, as usual, is virtually no help. He basically just says, “do it if you want, don’t do it if you don’t want.” Argh.

We’re getting the carpet cleaned on Monday and we’re getting an air filter thingy too. We hope it helps with my allergies. OK, that’s the update for now.
