Year’s plans

We cancelled our honeymoon. We may go later when money is less tight or we may just forgo the thing entirely. Cancelling only cost us a few hundred dollars. It’s well worth it.
Other plans for 2006:
JAN: New Year’s Eve and next night - going out with a group of friends. Honestly, I’m not looking forward to this anymore. I had a strange dream last night and I can’t seem to shake it. In the dream, one of our friends humiliated Ed and also cost us a bunch of money. I want to see Cake at the end of January. I haven’t gotten the tickets yet though.
FEB: I’m going on a road trip with Mary beginning of February. We’re going to go home for a week to see the coast and our parents. Dad is still not answering his phone, so we will check on him to make sure he’s alive. We’re going on a skiing trip sometime around Valentine’s Day. I’ve never been skiing. We have to get some cold weather clothes. Read more

Towel crafts for when I get a little more brave:
Today I made 3 catnip toys. Bogart just loves them. The other cats seem to care less.
I also did that pens become flowers thing.

Without interesting or funny events, angst, or passionate stories, journaling/bloging is lame.
I now convert this journal into a a notepad for me to store ideas, projects, headaches…
Crafts I like/ may do someday:
Craft ideas:
- Make fridge magnet picture frames with CD jewel cases - perfect for oft changed pictures, like child’s artwork!
- Wall hanging fabric spare toilet paper roll holders
- fabric covered boxes, lil bags, and pillows with pockets for tampons, condoms, other things that need hiding

Honeymoon flights are booked! We’re going, no more worries.
Now we just have to decide on the hotels and activities…
I have always wanted to write a book about it because there are so many different perspectives, philosophies, cultures of gift-giving.
Now I’m off to shop for Christmas gifts.
weird wedding stuff…the saga continues

Even though I’m now married I still talk it up on the wedding forums. It’s really interesting how people have such strong feelings about wedding stuff. Myself included.
For example, a recent thread is about telling guests not to bring a gift. Many etiquette books/articles/gurus will say there should never be any mention of gifts on an invitation and some go even further to say there should never be any mention of gifts at all. The reasoning goes that it’s presumptuous to assume people would bring gifts, so you shouldn’t tell them not to, even if you have very good reason (site can’t accommodate gifts, you have no use for most wedding gifts, it’s a destination wedding).
So, I agree, under the strictest etiquette rules, that telling people not to give gifts is somewhat tacky, but who cares? It’s tantamount to registering for china or at a funeral asking that donations be made to such-and-such rather than sending flowers. Who cares? If it’s tacky, it’s the tiny weeny minor kind of tacky.
And then there are certain strange customs surrounding weddings. For example, when Ed and I sent our engagement notice to the newspapers, the one that printed it without a fee re-worded it. They printed that my parents announced our engagement, which simply wasn’t the case. My father was surprised to read it in the paper. Yes, he knew we were engaged, but he didn’t “announce” anything.
Anyway, back to the forums…
