Down (or, How I Was E-stalked by a Scissor Craving Man)

Long time, no journal. I’ve also taken down my website.

Here’s why:

Though I have had many great experiences online though email, chat, forums, and web pages, recently a blast from the past came into my life in the form of an email stalker.

Joshua and I worked together for a couple weeks about 8 years ago. Joshua is ill; he has schizophrenia.

Honestly, I only remember one thing about him - he wanted me to cut his hair and I said no. Then he wanted to borrow my scissors to cut his hair himself and I said no. He got really angry and called me some names.

Well, he found me online 8 years later and started emailing me.

At first the emails were nothing to be worried about. They didn’t make sense, but they weren’t threatening or vulgar or anything like that. I simply ignored them.

Looking back on it I think I should have sent him one email asking him to stop emailing me. At the time I was worried he would take it as encouragement, some sort of acknowledgement of him… So, I never responded to his emails. Not a single one.

After about 6 months he started getting nasty. He sent me a picture of himself flipping me off, a picture of his penis, and he threatened me and my family directly making absurd comments about my sister.

I contacted his ISP and asked that they do something. He started sending from another email address.

I contacted Yahoo! and they banned him too.

There was a third email addy that he hadn’t yet sent anything nasty from, just “innocent” emails, so that ISP wouldn’t do anything.

Since he made threats I called the police. They laughed. Seriously, they laughed.

Finally, I changed my email address and took down my website. So, that’s the story. That’s why I haven’t been writing in livejournal, why my site is down and why I’ve semi-abandoned the web.
